This week began with a powerful show of leadership and advocacy. On Monday, President Rayneika Robinson joined fellow union leaders in a roundtable discussion with the Governor’s Office, where she raised urgent concerns about the health and safety of community corrections members. Specifically, she addressed the growing risks tied to the agency’s new Home Visit Policy, emphasizing that the safety of frontline workers must be treated as a top priority.

On Wednesday, President Robinson, alongside other Local 3661 leaders, stood in solidarity with the family of Agent Davis Martinez—including his mother, brothers, and partner—for the official signing of the Davis Martinez Act. This legislation marks a significant milestone in the fight to protect public service workers and serves as a lasting tribute to Agent Martinez’s service and sacrifice.

What the Davis Martinez Act Does:

  • Directs MOSH (Maryland Occupational Safety and Health) to establish a unit dedicated to the health and safety of public sector workers.
  • Empowers MOSH to issue fines to public agencies found in violation of safety standards.
  • Establishes a Workplace Violence Standard that all public employers must follow, ensuring greater accountability and protection for workers across the state.

This new law represents a major victory for labor and a turning point in how workplace safety is addressed in the public sector.

As Local 3661 continues its statewide organizing efforts—fueled by insights from worksite visits and recent member surveys—leadership remains committed to building on this momentum to push for lasting, systemic change.
